Xmas Work Festivities

So Yesterday we had this Holiday sweets potluck at work. Since they've taken away our Christmas party and have tried to take as much cheer out of us as humanly possible lately.
I helped in the planning process and other than some scheduling issues I think everything went pretty well. Here's some pictures.

The Cake I baked: (Amaretto Cake with Green Food Dye in a Christmas Tree Bundt Shape)

We decorated by hanging up Stockings with people's names on them (had them from years gone by) and we had a fake tree that we printed out pictures of everyone and hung them up like ornaments. Came out pretty good looking if I do say so myself.

Then we did both Secret Santa and White Elephant. Secret Santa I'm happy to say went off without a hitch. Everyone remembered, no one was left out. It was all good.
Now... White Elephant on the other hand I wasn't nearly as pleased with. Most people took it seriously this year... There were wonderful things under the tree... An ITunes gift card, Chair/Back Massager, Afghan Disney Blanket, Electronic Sudoku, etc etc... There was really only 1 gift that ended up being opened that no one wanted... Guess who ended up with it...
That just SCREAMS Me doesn't it?... /sigh... Maybe next year.

More Stuff Should Require Licenses

Computers should require licenses to use them. Imagine if Cars didn't require a written test and had help lines?

General Motors doesn't have a "help line" for people who don't know how to drive, because people don't buy cars like they buy computers -- but imagine if they did...

HELPLINE: "General Motors HelpLine, how can I help you?"

CUSTOMER: "I got in my car and closed the door, and nothing happened!"

HELPLINE: "Did you put the key in the ignition slot and turn it?"

CUSTOMER: "What's an ignition?"

HELPLINE: "It's a starter motor that draws current from your battery and turns over the engine."

CUSTOMER: "Ignition? Motor? Battery? Engine? How come I have to know all of these technical terms just to use my car?"

Second Call:
HELPLINE: "General Motors HelpLine, how can I help you?"

CUSTOMER: "My car ran fine for a week, and now it won't go anywhere!"

HELPLINE: "Is the gas tank empty?"

CUSTOMER: "Huh? How do I know!?"

HELPLINE: "There's a little gauge on the front panel, with a needle, and markings from 'E' to 'F.' Where is the needle pointing?"

CUSTOMER: "It's pointing to 'E.' What does that mean?"

HELPLINE: "It means that you have to visit a gasoline vendor, and purchase some more gasoline. You can install it yourself, or pay the vendor to install it for you."

CUSTOMER: "What!?" I paid $12,000. for this car! Now you tell me that I have to keep buying more components? I want a car that comes with everything built in!"

Keeping a Healthy Level of Insanity During the Holidays

Getting bored during this Holiday season? Especially at work? Try some of these to keep your insanity level at an all time high =)

At lunch time, sit in your parked car with sunglasses
on and point a hair dryer at passing cars. See if
they slow down.

Page yourself over the intercom. Don't disguise
your voice.

Insist that your e mail address is:
Cylon-Model6@companyname.com or
Elvis-the-King@companyname.com.

Every time someone asks you to do something,
ask if they want fries with that.

Encourage your colleagues to join you in a little
synchronized chair dancing.

Put your garbage can on your desk and label it
"IN."

Develop an unnatural fear of staplers.

Put decaf in the coffee maker for 3 weeks. Once
everyone has gotten over their caffeine addictions,
switch to espresso.

In the memo field of all your checks, write 'for sexual
favors.'

Reply to everything someone says with, "That's
what you think."

Finish all your sentences with "In accordance with
the prophecy."

Adjust the tint on your monitor so that the brightness
level lights up the entire work area. Insist to others
that you like it that way.

Dont use any punctuation ever

As often as possible, skip rather than walk.

Ask people what sex they are. Laugh hysterically
after they answer.

Specify that your drive-through order is "to go."

Sing along at the opera.

Go to a poetry recital and ask why the poems don't
rhyme.

Find out where your boss shops and buy exactly
the same outfits. Wear them one day after your
boss does. (This is especially effective if your boss
is of the opposite gender.)

Send e-mail to the rest of the company to tell them
what you're doing. For example, "If anyone needs
me, I'll be in the bathroom, in Stall #3."

Put mosquito netting around your cubicle. Play a
tape of jungle sounds all day.

Five days in advance, tell your friends you can't
attend their party because you're not in the mood.

Call 911 and ask if 911 is for emergencies.

Call the psychic hotline and don't say anything.

Have your co-workers address you by your wrestling
name, Rock Hard.

When the money comes out of the ATM, scream
"I Won!", "I Won!" "3rd time this week!!!"

When leaving the zoo, start running towards the
parking lot, yelling, "Run for your lives, they're
loose!"

Tell your boss, "It's not the voices in my head that
bother me, its the voices in your head that do."

Tell your children over dinner. "Due to the economy,
we are going to have to let one of you go."

Every time you see a broom, yell "Honey, your mother
is here!"

Latest Poem

Hey Guys... Got inspired today to write a poem. I'm putting up some pictures that I felt matched the mood of it. I just found these on the internet so I don't mean to take credit for anyone's photography. Once I have a real camera I'm going to try to take pictures of my own.

"Abandon"

I remember when I had a home,
all I wanted was to wander and roam.
But I escaped and now I'm free...
yet my home is all I wish to see.

I miss the warmth and the love,
I miss the 4walls and the roof above.
Being out here I thought was my dream...
Just don't understand now what can it mean.

Alone in the world just feels so wrong,
can't go home when there's nowhere you belong.
No one to love me no one to care...
I need to show I need to share.

At first I felt angry and double crossed,
but now just so alone and so lost.
Laying out here the world seems empty and cold...
And my old life I should never have sold.

Whatever I did that made you let me go,
I am so sorry if only you could know.
I see now that it's family not freedom I lack...
Please won't you find me and bring me back?

Thanksgiving

This was Nathan's First Thanksgiving. He seemed to have a good ol' time. Got to play with a rubber turkey leg and get snuck mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, etc.

I did alot of cooking. The turkey came out delicious with the rub I've perfected in the last couple years.

Only problem this year was a little incident with forgetting to Bake the Pumpkin Pie... OOPS! But at least we had yummy Apple Pie Ala Mode Ice Cream Pie from Baskin Robins. mmm.

Are left-handed people smarter?

Friend of mine pointed me to this article. Power to the lefties!

As per MSN news

Yep. According to researcher Alan Searleman, southpaws have higher IQs, solve problems better and enjoy more extensive vocabularies than righties. Lefty cases in point: Isaac Newton, Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso, for starters. Not to mention every U.S. president since 1981, except this one. (George W. Bush)

Can't seem to get the links to work for some reason.

Take heart, righties: Searleman's study also found that lefties have worse memories than their right-handed peers.

The memory thing is sooo true.

Fall Lineup Review

Fall TV... Some pretty good shows out there. Most of which are also available on Hulu which is awesomeness or Netflix (not quite as awesome since it's a pay service but still). It seems like alot of the shows on now a days are very interesting commentaries on the human psyche.

Life - About a cop who gets set up and wrongfully sent to prison for 12 years. Now he's been cleared of the charges, given 50 million and become a detective. It's a great show and really gets you thinking about human nature but also it's an interesting puzzle.

House - Continuation of a great series. If you Haven't managed to catch this then you're missing out. It follows a greatly misunderstood doctor who likes to keep it that way and his band of employees/boss/badly abused friends in their attempt to save lives and magically end up saving each other on a regular basis as well. Though most of them are pretty ungreatful and whiney about the whole thing.

Bones - Another great continuing series. Bones and Booth have a great chemistry and are like a walking YinYang with a badge. Though some of the internal drama/romance story lines I think get drawn out a little far I'd still watch this show forever and a day.

Chuck - Cute. The story of a guy who had his life seriously messed up by his bestfriend and no longer lives up to his potential. Who suddenly gets thrown into the world of spies again by his ex-bestfriend because now he has a computer library stored in the subconcious of his brain. Wacky misadventures with a little bit of highschool/college type romance thrown into the mix.

Fringe - Kinda odd... Mix all the cop type shows of today with Young Frankenstein. On the one hand you have cop chick that wants all the answers working for the government and never having all the information to start... but on the other hand you have a crazy old man who used to be the equivilant of doctor frankenstein and his son who is too smart for his own good babysitting him. And they're all trying to clean up some nameless group's goings on that are using the good doctor's old research to turn the world into a very large experiment. Ever wonder what the lab mice feel like? The humor is a little deranged at times but that's good for me. And the romance like most of these shows is again a never ending banging your head into a wall because they can't see what's infront of their face and get too hung up on the past. But another one I'd recommend.

Seeker of Truth (i think that's the title) - If you like Sci-Fi series and you've read the Terry Goodkind books... STAY AWAY!!! Compared to the books this series blows... But as I've heard from people who have never read the books it's not so bad. Unfortunately they appear to have cut out alot of aspects that actually drew me into the books in the first place and have taken the "easy" route for story telling purposes. The CGI really isn't all that great but that's probably the budget's doing. I can't really fault the show for what it's done to the story but... I wouldn't recommend it and it's probably doomed for more than it just being an original series.

Knight Rider - Interesting rendition of the old show. New and upbeat. Love the new kit and his cyborg take on humor. It's kinda like mixing the old kit with Data from Startrek and then giving him some transformers capabilities and scifi tech. The team backing him up do a good job too. Some characters seemed a bit out of place to me at first but they grow on you. I was a bit skeptical of the new Michael but he's pulling it off quite well. I can see it calling more to the younger audiance than the original following but still a good show.

Sons of Anarchy - Drama... Lots of Drama. Some romance not so much comedy. Hell's Angels meets 7th Heaven. It's all about the "Family" and the "Family" business. The series starts out a bit heavy with the pilot kind of being at the height of drama but it seems to smooth out over the next several episodes. We'll see how it pans out for the rest of the season but I'll definately be keeping up on it. And yes... Peggy Bundy is in it.

Sanctuary - New Show starring "Sam" from Stargate. Another common theme lately... Mutants. Evolution at it's finest. Who will protect the weird and impossible from the world and itself? The Sanctuary. I'm not entirely sure how I like this show. It's good but I'm not sure it's great. I fear it will probably be doomed to the fate of all SciFi Original Series shows but only time will tell. Some of the acting is a little lacking and some of the story is a bit cliche with all the shows/movies on this subject lately. But definately worth catching while it's around.

Heroes (Season3) - Better than Season 2... Still not quite as good as Season 1. At least they're going back in the right direction. But still the story lines are a bit convoluted. I wish they had tied up some of the loose ends they created last season though i know alot of people just want to forget last season existed (including the writers). I'm glad they're explaining some backstory this time but I fear it may be taking up too much time and force them into hurrying with the current events. We shall see...

American Dad! - Newer Oldy but a goody. This cartoon isn't quite the old school Simpsons but definately a good time sink. Everyone in the family has brains in their head they just all seem to be going on their own agenda. There's much breaking of the 4th wall and inside jokes. I think it's aimed at a slightly higher IQ level than some of the other mature comedy cartoons out today.

Family Guy - This I think appeals to the slightly more braindead edge of comedy. Don't get me wrong it's a good show and funny as hell sometimes... but sometimes it feels like one long fart joke. The Stewie and Brian characters are what really keep me watching I think.

Not on at the moment but still good shows:
Burn Notice - Awesome show. Follows an ex-spy who has been "Burned". Trying to figure out why he got the boot and who did it so he can get his life back. Living in the hell of Miami and only having his crazy Mom, constantly introuble brother, trigger happy ex-g/f and good friend who spies on him for the FBI to lean on. Solving the worlds problems one stupid person at a time to fund his endevors. It's got a little bit of everything in it and sometimes scares you with how much some of the characters remind you of people you know.

Battlestar Galactica - Comes back for it's final 10 episodes in January. I admit I wasn't too into this show when it first started but it really got me in Season 3. After that things made alot more sense. So if you gave up on it early go back and give it another chance. You'll be glad you did.

Eureka - Funny. Follows a not so booksmart but fairly streetsmart cop and his too intellegent for her own good daughter as they move into a town full of geniuses. Think of all those crazy smart people from highschool... Not the ones with their nose stuck in a book... The ones inventing weird stuff to make their lives easier... Sound effects to keep their parent's knowing they snuck out... Devices to distract the teacher... hacking into the computers to change their grades... Now give them a town... and unlimited funding... And you have Eureka!

Doctor Who - COME BACK TO US DOCTOR!!!

Torchwood - Off shoot of the new Doctor Who. Torchwood centers around Captain Jack and his team that kinda does the Doctor's job when he's not around to help. If you're going to watch this show I'd definately suggest watching some of the last couple seasons of Doctor Who at the same time though because they do cross over and there are inside jokes you won't get on both series.

Shows I haven't seen But I'm planning to watch when I have the time:
Crusoe - I've actually seen peices of this but never a full episode. But Patrick and my parents like it so I'm assuming it's pretty good since they don't always agree on things.

My Own Worst Enemy - Very Interesting Premise. This could either be really good or a flop. Patrick seems to like this one too so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Midnight WotLK Launch

Ok all caught up to the present now.

Last night I got to camp at Gamestop for 2 hours in order to get the WotLK WoW Expansion.
It was interesting. I got to meet the two people that won the competition at Blizzcon. Otherwise it was pretty uneventful.

Movin' and a Cruisin'

Nathan has finally figured out how to get moving. At least to a point. He's figured out how to sit up if he's even a little elevated. He can pull himself up from sitting to standing if given something high enough that he can still reach.

He is officially 7 months old today and already trying to walk and such a cutey!

New Home

Here's pictures of my new home.

Update on Patrick's Foot

A little background -
9 Years ago Patrick started having pain in his foot for no reason. Any touching of his foot sent him into agonizing pain. But he hates doctors and the doctors couldn't find anything anyway.
About 2 months ago his foot started swelling and hurting more than usual so i finally got to drag him into the doctor.
After 3 doctors we finally ended up at a specialist since nothing showed up on Xrays or Bloodwork and he ended up getting 2 MRIs. The second one being with dyes to show contrast.
They discovered he had 2 tumor masses in his foot.
A few weeks ago they did a biopsy on it and confirmed that it is benign. But the doctor refused to operate on it. Due to it's size and it's consistency. And the fact that he could "live with it" so we said he Couldn't live with it. And they gave us a new doctor to see at UCI. His doctor appointment with the new doctor is Monday Nov 17th. So hopefully I'll be able to give more updates then.

Halloween

Nathan's first Halloween.
I went as Harley Quinn and Nathan went as Eeyore! He was so cute.

The Thursday before Halloween we had a costume contest at work. Here are a co-worker and I that won the contest.

Then on Friday I dressed as Harley Quinn and won another costume contest. Here's me and little Eeyore.
My niece went as Batgirl and she was adorable too

My Birthday

October 11th was my 26th Birthday.
Thursday, Oct 9th... There were layoffs at work. Not me but other people I know.
Blizzcon started on October 10th but of course we couldn't afford to go. That Friday I was offered the chance to go by a co-worker. But Patrick was upset I wished to go without him. Soooo I didn't.
Saturday... My friend/old guildie was throwing a party. Not related to my birthday but to Blizzcon. So we ended up going to it after dropping the kidlet off at my parent's house. Things were well for the most part but to sum it up it ended with a broken window... me having to pick up glass for 2 hours... and me screaming at Patrick for a while.
Sunday we were going to dinner with my family at Bennihanas. First my Sis and her family were all sick that weekend so they couldn't come to my b-day dinner. Then my parent's left the house right behind me... yet they managed to get to Bennihanas half an hour after us. They ended up going shopping for me inbetween leaving the house and getting to dinner... Wish they'd told us they were going to be late. And then it was these 2 HIDEOUS dresses... but ah well... Dinner was good though. They made some changes to the show... and Nathan only got upset once which was quickly quelled by a slice of lemon from the bartender.

The next week I went out shopping with my mom and replaced the hideous dresses with a cute little skirt suit and a cute shirt/sweater top from Walmart. Hurrah. So I guess it didn't turn out as bad as I'd thought...

I still owe my friend $150 but have yet to hang out with him since the window incident.

Updating the blog

Cisco branching into Spanish Music?

Here's a blog entry from a Cisco user as well as an article on SlashDot regarding this little incident.

Apparently someone just got a new Cisco firewall and with it the latest VPN Client Software cd... Or so they thought. When attempting to use the CD they discovered that it instead contained 12 tracks of mexican music.

Ahh to be a fly in the wall at THAT meeting...

"You accidentally did WHAT?!"
"Well... ya see... I was burning the CD for the new VPN Client software and accidentally clicked on the My Music folder instead."
"But... You don't even speak Spanish!"
"So?"

Friends Don't Let Friends Send Drunken Emails

Gmail Labs is adding a new feature to stop you from sending email you'll later regret.

What it does it after you hit the send button... it checks to confirm you actually wish to send this email. In the easiest way it knows how... to ask you MATH problems! Simple math problems that is...

Thus if you're in an altered state of mind... Intoxicated... Hysterical... Emotional... etc... It will either prevent you from sending it by the sheer inability to answer said math problems... or at least it will give you time to clear your head enough to be Sure you want to send it.

Apparently right now it is only going to be enabled for Evenings on weekends. Which is the most likely time you'd need it. But I think you can mess with the advanced settings if need be.

Updates

So last week I took 3 days off of work. My Mother-In-Law came down on Thursday which was also coincidentally Patrick and My's 4th anniversary. Soooo Wednesday was spent doing laundry and hanging out with my parents for the most part. Thursday we met up with Patrick's mom at her hotel and she got to babysit the little dude while we went out to dinner. We went to Olive Garden... mmmmmm... they had their never-ending pasta bowl. On a related note.. the cheesy marinara sauce is Gooooood and so is their house red wine. Nathan apparently was really good for his grandma baby-sitter and we bought him these toys that strap to his wrists and rattle when he flaps his arms.

Friday was mostly spent walking around the mall. We were going to get pictures taken but there wasn't an appointment til 5pm and my MiL had other stuff to do. We also were going to go to lunch at Outback but they were CLOSED!! Who ever heard of a resterant being closed for lunch? At least one that has Lunch type stuff and is open for lunch on Sundays. But we went to Gangis Khan's instead which was good and Nathan's grandma bought him a HUGE Stuffed Eeyore which he absolutely loves despite it being bigger than he is. After the mall we went to her best friend's house and their kids attempted to play with and entertain Nathan.

Saturday we went to a resturant called Walt's in Seal Beach. It was nice and had good seafood. It was a little strange that you needed to make reservations for lunch but they didnt take them for dinner. I'd definately recomend it. They had good pasta salad too. But just as a warning Parking Sucks! as it does in all beach towns on main street.

Sunday was just very relaxed... Monday we took Patrick into an actual Pediatrist for his foot. FINALLY! There were X-rays and stuff and the doctor even talked into a tape recorder. Of course nothing has come of it yet but at least they scheduled him for an MRI on this Monday so hopefully they'll find something. After having to drag him in kicking and screaming I'd rather not be proven wrong about them being able to do anything to help the 9year old pain.

Other than that... This week has been pretty much same ol' same ol'.

Just thought I'd spread the news.

Maynard makes Wine?!?!

Yeah, news to me too.
I just found out this week that Maynard, the lead singer of my favorite band Tool, owns a vineyard!
Apparently they make really good wine there too. As per the opinions of a few wine enthusiasts. And decently priced to boot!
Unfortunately the only way to get any is to either order it online or go to the actual vineyard in Arizona. I was so sad when I found out Maynard had been in Hollywood signing bottels and selling them for like $25!

I really gotta try some

Anyway, check out his vineyard's website. It's a pretty cool design too, for a website that is.

New Poem

Ok so I've been having that writing itch lately again. Here's my latest creation.

Never Knew

Never thought I was lost,
until I was found.
Never noticed the sky,
until my feet touched ground.

I never minded the silence,
until I heard sound.
And I never realized I'd been alone,
until you were around.

Somehow you've taken over...
Every depth of my heart...
If I couldn't see your smile...
My day would never start.

You laugh play smile and such...
opening my eyes to see...
that I love you oh so much.

Your cries hurts sorrow and strife...
all are felt by me...
for you are my life.

And though sometimes...
it may not show...
you mean more to me...
than you'll ever know.

With that all being said...
no matter where we are...
or how far apart we've been lead...
you will always be my soul...
and always in my head.

Quote

"What seems to be the matter dear?
Why do you cry and shake with fear?
I've only had the best dub me insane"
~Disturbed

Dr. Seuss, Tech Writer

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
And the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report...

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
And the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
And your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
Then your situation's hopeless and your system's going to crash!

If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
Says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
But your packets want to tunnel on another protocol,
That's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,

And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss,
So your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
Then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'Cause as sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang!

When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk,
And the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risk,
Then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM...
Quickly turn off your computer and be sure to tell your mom.

Busy Busy Busy

Ok I know I've been neglecting my log a bit lately... ok alot lately. But I've been really really busy! Between work... household stuff... doctor appointments... playing with the baby... family obligations... I don't know how I've even had time to sleep and breath. Ok sleep I may have neglected a bit too here and there.

But no worries. I will try to make up for it...

Reminds me of my job

FLAT TIRE

A software manager, a hardware manager, and a marketing manager are driving to a meeting when a tire blows. They get out of the car and look at the problem.

The software manager says, "I can't do anything about this - it's a hardware problem."

The hardware manager says, "Maybe if we turned the car off and on again, it would fix itself."

The marketing manager says, "Hey, 75% of it is working - let's ship it!"

Back to Poetry

So I know I sorta dropped my daily poetry corner. But I'll try to post stuff once in a while when I come across it.

Falling

I’m Falling,
Away from you…
What ever..
Should I do?

Should I let you…
Drag me down?
Should I live
With a frown?

I love you,
With all my heart,
But you don’t…
Know where to start.

You always say,
That you care,
But lately it seems…
You’re never there.

You make me laugh…
But you make me cry…
It’s so hard…
To think of saying good bye.

What else am I
Supposed to do?
I never seem…
To get through to you!

You don’t even see me…
Slipping away…
Maybe you’ll notice…
Some..day…

Then I’ll be gone…
No more chances for you…
I really hate to feel this way…
But I do…

YUCK! What's so funny?

Kids today have the oddest sense of humor...

Nathan is having a laughing fit after he drooled while Daddy gave him a kiss and said yuck.

Ugh it's Monday

Where'd my weekend go?

Well lets see. Friday my friend Nancy dropped by to drop her non-working computer off to be worked on. After she left the baby and I passed out until like 3am the next morning. At which point I sorta dozed in an out of sleep until 6ish when I finally got up.

Saturday morning was spent cleaning bottles and the car in a hurry cuz I had to be at my parent's house by 10am to take them to the airport. I ended up getting done at bit early so I headed up there around 9ish. Grandma and Grandpa were happy to see Nathan before they're trip and ended up taking us to Dennys before actually heading up to LAX. On the drive to LAX we noticed the 405S was going a bit slow but I figured it would clear up sometime in the next hour... Little did I know how wrong I was.

So we got to the airport around 12:15. Which was fine since their flight didn't leave until like 3:30ish? But you never know how long lines in the airport are gonna take these days. So I dropped them off. Everything going well and without a hitch. I should have known something was wrong. I tried to leave the airport and of course people wanted to just stop to the left of me so I couldn't get back into the lane... then I finally get in the lane and people want to unload/drop off From that lane. I get out of the airport finally and I think I'm home free. Baby is asleep and it's all good.

Get on the Freeway heading south... Everything pretty normal until I reach the 605 merger on the 405. And then... Stopped. Ok ok traffic is pretty normal for a Saturday. No worries right? I'm in the fast lane anyway so no hope of escape even if i wanted to. So I'm sitting in traffic pretty much crawling along for an hour and finally decide to call Patrick to find out why. He looks up Sig alert... "Accident at Brookhurst and the 405... Last update at... 11am?" "Huh... Weird... You'd think it would be cleared up by 1:30..." But no other news... And I wait... Finally I remember that AM Station 980 plays the traffic report every 10 min. So I switch over my radio and sure enough... "Things are slow on the 405S... Due to a Big Rig going through the Sound wall at Brookhurst and setting some houses on Fire..." Oh ok.... Wait... WHAT?!?! "Oh don't worry the fire is out... and just the right 2 lanes are closed"... So I'm thinking... How much longer can this possibly take? If it happened like 3 hours ago? Of course the baby wakes up and starts complaining... So I drive for another 30 min with my arm in a horribly uncomfortable position trying to feed him and drive at the same time. At around 2:30ish? This is what I saw...

It's amazing what becomes amuzing when you've been waiting in line 2 hours to see it... I felt like I was at Disneyland and didn't realize i was in the line for It's a Small World instead of Space mountain. Either way... I finally got home at like 3pm. I'm definately making sure to rub this in when my parents get back from their trip.

Note: It turns out the accident wasn't cleaned up until 9:06pm that night. So I guess I should be happy I wasn't stuck in it longer.

After that horrible Saturday morning. I found out the game we usually go to on Saturdays was canceled so we headed up to our friend's house to hang out. Note: we haven't seen these friends in like... almost a year? heh... It was fun... They got to meet the baby and we watched odd movies like Heavy Metal and something else I can't remember.

Sunday was pretty relaxed except that I discovered my Laptop is no longer charging. I tried moving the power plug to another plug and unplugging everything and replugging it in... and restarting the computer. All of which has worked before. But to no avail. So now I have a pretty expensive paper weight sitting on my desk until I can get a new power cord... As long as it's the power cord. Hopefully it's not the battery or the motherboard cuz then I'm really toast.

So now it's Monday... After this weekend I'm not sure if I'm sad or relieved. Ah well what can ya do?

"Doesn't It Annoy You When..."

..there's a car alarm nearby that goes on for hours
and the owner is nowhere to be found?

..you buy an answering machine so you won't miss
any calls, and then everyone hangs up when they
hear the machine answer?

..there's a cop car in sight and everyone thinks they
have to drive 10-15 mph slower than the speed limit?

..you're reading a magazine and all those annoying
little subscription cards keep falling out?

..you tell someone that a door is locked and they try
to open it anyway, like it'll magically open for them
and not you.

..someone says, "well, to make a long story short"
and then they go on telling it for another 15 minutes.

..a friend or family member says "Yuck! This is awful!!"
and then tells you to try some.

..you have to inform five different sales people in the
same store that you're just looking around.

..you rub on hand cream and can't turn the bathroom
doorknob to get out.

..a waiter or waitress is not around at any time other
than right after you put food in your mouth.

..your tire gauge lets out half the air in your tire when
all you want is a pressure reading.

..there's a dog in your neighborhood that barks at
EVERYTHING.

..the power goes out, and you discover every flashlight
you have has dead batteries.

..someone gets in the express lane at the supermarket
and writes a check or uses a credit card.

..the elevator stops at every floor and nobody gets
on or off.

..you almost ALWAYS back up your computer files but
the week you don't, your hard drive crashes and you
lose everything.

Weekend Stuff

So this weekend was fairly eventful but kinda boring really. We had gotten a notice from our HoA that we were in violation by having a Window Air Conditioner and that it must be removed by This Monday. Which is kinda stupid since the thing has been installed for 5 years and can't even be seen from anywhere but the roof.

Unfortunately they were doing work on our building the last couple weeks and were on our roof of course.

So we spent the last week or so researching Portable A/Cs. Saturday we went to pick up our monthly pictures at JC Pennys and to pick up one of these Portable A/Cs at Home Depot. Which we discovered was a bad idea since they were really heavy and HUGE! So we ended up waiting until Sunday to go with my parents to get it. Patrick and Dad ended up taking the old one out of our window and putting the new one in that night.

Then Monday rolls around and... The HoA puts ANOTHER note on our door saying it wasn't fixed. I called and bitched at them and they said they'd fix it in their books or whatever. Stupid HoA.

Getting back to Saturday... after all the attempting but not getting anything done. Patrick wasn't feeling well so I ended up going to game with just the Baby and I. Nathan did a great job of playing Daddy's DnD character though and much fun was had by all.

New pics will be uploaded to the Baby's Online Album soon I just have been too tired to get around to it. Anyone who has the address I'd suggest checking it in a couple days.

Ok that is all for now.

Giggles

It's amazing how the sound of a giggle can make you so happy. Something so simple and yet filling you with never ending joy to the point you aren't sure if you want to laugh or cry.

I never thought it was possible to gain so much joy out of something so simple. Other than when you're a child of course. But being an adult and watching your child gain such happiness out of such simple things actually manages to make you just as happy as the child experiencing it.

Last night we finally got the baby to giggle repeatedly. And not just once or twice. But over and over and for minutes at a time.

I think the moment of holding him and having him laughing at/with Patrick and I may have been one of the happiest moments in my entire life.

If you'd told me years ago that I'd feel this way I'd have looked at you funny. I mean I knew it would be cool but I had no idea.

So weird.

Too True

Wonderful New Product

Announcing the new Built-in Orderly Organized Knowledge device, otherwise known as the BOOK.

It's a revolutionary breakthrough in technology: no wires, no electric circuits, no batteries, nothing to be connected or switched on. It's so easy to use even a child can operate it. Just lift its cover. Compact and portable, it can be used anywhere -- even sitting in an armchair by the fire -- yet it is powerful enough to hold ass much information as a CD-ROM disk.

Here's how it works: each BOOK is constructed of sequentially numbered sheets of paper (recyclable), each capable of holding thousands of bits of information. These pages are locked together with a custom-fit device called a binder which keeps the sheets in their correct sequence. By using both sides of each sheet, manufacturers are able to cut costs in half.

Each sheet is scanned optically, registering information directly into your brain. A flick of the finger takes you to the next sheet. The BOOK may be taken up at any time and used by merely opening it. The "Browse" feature allows you to move instantly to any sheet, and move forward or backward as you wish. Most come with an "index" feature, which pinpoints the exact location of any selected information for instant retrieval.

An optional "BOOKmark" accessory allows you to open the BOOK to the exact place you left it in a previous session -- even if the BOOK has been closed. BOOKmarks fit universal design standards; thus a single BOOKmark can be used in BOOKs by various manufacturers.

Portable, durable and affordable, the BOOK is the entertainment wave of the future, and many new titles are expected soon, due to the surge in popularity of its programming tool, the Portable Erasable-Nib Cryptic Intercommunication Language stylus [PENCIL].

"The Winning Entry"

The following is the 2007 winning entry from
an annual contest at Texas A&M University
calling for the most appropriate definition of
a contemporary term.

Last year's term was ' Political Correctness '.

The winner wrote:

'Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a
delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted
by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which
holds forth the proposition that it is entirely
possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.'

Is it Thursday Already?

It seems like the week is just flying by.

So much to do... So little time to actually do it... and so much wasted time doing things I don't see as important. Bah! I hate work.

I need to find a new portable A/C cuz our homeowners association are Nazi's and won't let us have one in our window. Our HoA is kinda horrible with all it's rules and such. Can you believe they actually tried to convince us that Possums are harmless creatures?

Need to help hubby study his drink cards. Hurrah for Bartending.

I have like 50 billion friends whom I've promised to hang out with or even call back who probably haven't heard from me in like a month.

Ah well. Enough of my complainy ranting post.

Weekend Happenings

Quick summary of the weekend since I seem to have been neglecting my blog as of late.

Friday - Went to dinner with my Parents, Sister, Brother-in-law and Niece for my Sister's b-day. Even though her B-day is like a month away but our parents are going to be out of town (as usual) on her actual B-day and for 1 week before and after. Then with everyone being so busy it was work trying to even get this time scheduled. ANYWAY... We went to Amazon Brazilian BBQ in Fullerton. mmmmmmm... that place was awesome. Very nice atmosphere and yummy food. I'd give it an A.

Saturday -
First we went to my company picnic. Which was surprisingly fun. Decent food this year, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, etc. No I didn't participate in the Bake off... It was baby's first picnic and I got to show him off though. He did quite well too.
See him eyeing the hotdog.

Then we went to my parents house to do laundry. At which point my mom ran off with my baby and decided to give us baby sitting we didn't ask for. Which worked out since we had a party to go to anyway.

Next we headed to my friend Jiggy's house warming party. Luckily it was right down the street from my parent's. So after a run to BevMo we headed down there and hung out with a bunch of people we don't know and ate more food. Hurrah! Really nice house and they got a cute puppy recently, who we must introduce to Aggro.

Sunday - We spent relaxing at home for the most part. Some reading... Some WoW... Same ol' Same ol'.

Compulsions are Bad

But sometimes funny as hell...
Even if no one else in the office gets it.

So my work is having a company picnic next Saturday. And they decided to have a Baking Contest. So in order to encourage participation they've put up fliers around the building. See Below.

Anyway... Sooo Needless to say to most of you. The picture of a Cake greatly resembles the cake from Portal. Therefore for the last week I've been restraining myself from blurting out "The Cake is a LIE!" every time I pass one. And Thus... Today my compulsions get the better of me.

The Dark Knight in IMAX

Omg...

Yeah that's pretty much all I have to say.

That was awesome. I didn't understand what people were talking about getting vertigo from watching the movie... but I do now.

If you still haven't seen this movie. Go see it in IMAX. If you have seen this movie but not in IMAX... You haven't seen the movie. LoL.

Oh and Heath Ledger better get an Oscar for this. Christian Bale and Aaron Eckhart both did great jobs as usual too. Though Two Face's face looked more like it belonged in the new Mummy movie rather than Batman but enh... it still looked cool. =)

On a related note. My company is awesome. They sell these discount tickets for Edwards... $7 for Unrestricted and $6 for after 12 days tickets. They can even be used for the IMAX!! Which is even more awesome given the rediculas state the price of movie tickets is. Can you believe $11.50 for a REGULAR show and $15 for IMAX? How do people do anything anymore with the way the economy is?

A Rockband can't play Rockband

Ahh the Irony of it all.

Awesome Inventions

I recently discovered a really awesome website, Strange New Products. Which contains some pretty cool inventions. I know it appears to have existed for a while now but I just found it so hush.

My favorite I must say is The Fizz Cup!
This little cup screws on the top of a soda bottle. You fill the cup with ice cream, screw it on top of the bottle and squeeze the soda bottle. It fills the cup with soda mixing with the ice cream which you then drink out of the top.

New Art Work

Lookie at the new art Patrick and I just got. Our friend Chris did it. They aren't the greatest pictures cuz the tats were still shiny and new. But you get the point.

This is on my right ankle.

Ahh Another Awesome Gamer Song

Gotta love all the gamer culture songs being performed lately. Anyway... Here's a great song inspired by Still Alive. "Dead Again" by Possible Oscar.

And because I mentioned it... I gotta post Still Alive featured in the game Portal's credits. Which has not been replaced in my heart as my favorite.

Work Reviews... Disturbing...

Ok... so normally I laugh at my annual performance reviews. I think I've only Once had my review done by the manager I was under for the entire year and who actually knew what work I was doing.

My first annual review 2003-2004... Well... I was a temp and I think I had like 4-5 managers that year... Hell my first manager I met then he went on vacation for like 2 weeks after I started and then was either fired or he quit... I was never quite clear.

I ended up getting hired on permanent a few months afterwards anyway.

2004-2005 - I think our new manager had just started like a month before my review. and I think I ended up getting a promotion here too... so he really wasn't giving me a review so much as notifying me of my pay increase and making a pretend attempt and being concerned with my career development.

2005-2006 - So despite the fact that I remained under the same manager this whole year... I was working on a special project. which wasn't under him. Sooo he really had no idea What I did. but he did my review anyway... Oh except it ended up being our team lead that gave em anyway. And it really didn't matter anyway because I ended up going on disability and then being moved to a different job when I got back anyway.

2006-2007 - Yay! Finally my actual manager does my review!

2007-2008 - Well... My manager Pei decided to return to Cisco the week before I left on Maternity leave. Sooooo yeah... Now I'm back and it looks like everyone did their self assessments while I was out. And my new manager is on PTO for like a month...

Now for the disturbing part... Through all of this I'd always at least been reviewed by my new managers... You know... the people actually directly above me. This time... Since my manager is on PTO... My Boss's boss... Is doing my review... and not only that... but keep in mind that these have to be approved by the next level up... So Now I'm having my review basically done by my Boss's boss's Boss... I'm not even sure he knows who I am...

Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade

So another year passes and once again I attend LoJ!
Yes I know I'm running a bit behind since that was like... Saturday. Anyway. It was lots of fun as usual. Lots of awesome costumes and performances. Several bands though one had this singer that really needed to just stop singing and let the music play. And some dancers as usual. There was even a ribbon dancer! Though not quite as good as some of the others I've seen she didn't do half bad.

Unfortunately my Sister and Bro-in-law didn't have as much fun as I was hoping they would. Since first this beautiful mask I bought my sister never showed!! They got harassed by security And never managed to find us.

We ended up hanging out with our good friends Mark, Eddie, and Eddie's Girly.

This is of me, Patrick and our friend Eddie.
If you like My mask visit Angel Masks
If you like My Hubby's mask visit Leather Masks
If you like Eddie's... well... Good luck with that ;-)

If you're interested in possibly attending, finding out more about it or just seeing more pictures and fun costumes. Go to the official LoJ website.

Huh... Weird

So California disability apparently did the same thing to me they did to Patrick when he filed for Unemployment. They had the wrong name and SS# for my application (how the hell does that happen?). Luckily my company has an awesome Disability Insurance company so they got it all cleared up for me. Hurrah!

And Ironically... they had Under estimated what I qualified for... So I'm supposed to receive some supplement check for the difference that I should have received while I was out. Maybe I won't sink into bankruptcy as quickly as I'd previously thought.

On a side note... I am still annoyed that UPS has yet to arrive at my house... STILL!!!

Oh and as an amendment to my previous statements of hating Government workers and my thoughts on their gene pool and mental status... This only applies to those government jobs that don't appear to require schooling (Like actual school not like Training/Boot camp for retards) and are the organizations that you can't avoid.. Like the DMV... and Disability... So this does not apply to people like Teachers (Though I 'm pretty sure the percentage is just lower in this category), Juvi Correctional Officers (Though they seem to all be crazy, heh) and UC IT Depts (*cough* Happy now Zack? *cough*)

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

I hate government workers

I don't know what's wrong with this country... but for some reason 99% of the people the government hires must all be inbred retards that can't be bothered to learn the basics of how to do their own jobs... I say 99%... I'm sure that there's some decent government workers out there... I just haven't met any of them yet.

Examples starting from most recent to earlier.

Example 1... My disability insurance company just called me to say the CA Disability claims I should have qualified for $0 payout on my maternity leave... wtf?... I told her that was impossible... She said it was probably due to a previous payout... I said I'd never even taken disability before... She was like... Oh... How long have you been in California?... All my life... Uhhh... Huh... well we may have to bill you for the over payment. WTF?!?

Example 2... USPS denies the existence of my address... They seem to ignore the Apt/Unit # on packages and can't seem to even be bothered with trying. 3 times... 1 month... 3 different companies... wtf... seriously...

Example 3... Trying to change my name... This little ordeal took me about 6 months to accomplish. First was the 2hour wait at the SS office... Then I had to get my SS card in the mail... Then I went to the DMV... And they changed it and renewed my License... Or so I thought. I got the print out and everything... 2 months past... No license in the mail... So I called... "Oh I'm sorry... we don't have any record of you ever coming in..." WHAT?!?!... So I go back into the DMV... "Well... It's not in the computer. We'll have to renew it again... " I showed the paper work from the first time... Proving they'd changed my name and I'd paid for everything.. and after a long arguement it was determined I'd have to come BACK in with my Marriage License AGAIN Oh but they couldn't let me leave cuz TECHNICALLY my license was expired soo we'll renew it on your old name and then you can come in Next week and change your name... Which I did... Which was a lie... I had to wait the month to get my new license... Then I had to go back with my Marriage License AGAIN... and they tried to Charge me to change my name!!! After a long arguement AGAIN... They finally did it and said basically that there was no guarantee that if I went into the DMV that anything I did there would actually get done.

Example 4... Patrick tried to file for Unemployment. They sent us 2 letters... both with the wrong SS number... Like completely wrong... So they couldn't verify his qualification... Oh but they couldn't FIX it... He had to RE-apply... Finally they get his SS right... and not only were they only going to pay out 200 a week but... They could only do it from the date that he submitted the LAST request for it... Which wasn't even a week before he managed to get a job. GAHHH!!!

I have more... but I will spare you. Needless to say... I'm very bitter.

Daily Poetry Corner

Again?

Did I really think it was possible?
Happiness finally?
Of course not…
I’m always left alone
To rot.

What’s wrong with me?
I always say
It’s not gonna happen again.
But I let it…
Why Do I just…
Never get it…

I guess I never will
All that is left
For me
Are fleeting moments
Of memory.

Everyone loves me…
That’s what they say…
But when I need them…
Where are they?…

Surrounded by People…
Yet always alone…
Sitting atop
My self appointed throne.

Do I do this to myself?
Or am I just damned?
Is there salvation?
Or is this how I’m to end?

Have I been lost for so long?
This is all I can remember…

Have you forsaken me?
Or Have I forsaken you?
It’s been so long…
I don’t even remember anymore…

How long
Have I been out of your light?
Would I even be accepted…
If I died tonight?

Or would I come back?
To die alone again…
Over and Over…
Until the end…

Photo Editing

So I've been trying to find a good software to do Photo Editing with. With the new baby and so many pictures I want to be able to make some nice collages and what not for the albums and to send to family. But I've discovered most of the software out there is highly over priced and complicated for what I'm attempting to accomplish.

I was however pleasantly surprised with MS Paint... yes... yes... I know... you can stop laughing now... but seriously! A little imagination, fudging and knowhow and you can make it do all sorts of things I never thought possible. My opinion of this free, microsoft *twitch*, highly mocked and under apreciated/utilized software has dramatically increased.

Check it out

Totally Us

Copywrite by XKCD

Daily Poetry

Sooo I'm a Poet. I'm going to try to post some of my stuff on a regular basis. Once I run out of old stuff maybe I'll start writing new stuff. It's been a little while but I seem to be getting inspired by alot of things lately for various projects. Poetry is usually at the heart of it too. Anyway... Without further ado... First Installment of my Daily Poetry.

Though I don't feel I should need to include this... Please do not copy my works without my permission or at least proper quotation. Thanks!

Lost

All my hopes
All my dreams
seem to go up
in a puff of steam.

Lost again
what a dope
who am I?
without hope.

I need to find myself again
where could I have gone?
lost within the lions den?

It's so dark
I cannot see
all the good
surrounding me.

I've been blinded
but now there's truth
how foolish am I?
I thought I needed proof

All that I need is here
to be myself again
I just need you near.

The more things change
The more they stay the same
As long as you're with me
then I can play this game.

Life is what we make it
Life is what we choose
If we just stand together
We will never ever lose.

Deliveries

Grrr For the 3rd time in the last month USPS has attempted to ruin my plans by denying the existance of my address. All of my packages get returned to sender "Undeliverable" yet FedEx and UPS have no problems what so ever. USPS FINALLY found my address after a package was shipped through them (Same exact paperwork mind you) 3 times!!!

Anyway... I'm currently hitting refresh over and over on the FedEx website waiting for my mask to be delivered for Saturday. Hopefully I'll get tracking info on my other package from UPS soon so I can do the same on there.

...I hate waiting...

Song I've got stuck in my head

Woke up today with this song stuck in my head and can't seem to get it out. Soooo Suffer!!! Muahahahah!

Actually it's a really good song surprisingly despite the heavy political connotations.

Got this one in there too.
